Is there a tachometer lead behind the dash cluster in a 92 Tercel? I know there is a lead by the obd connector under the hood, but I was wondering if there was one behind the cluster. My car did not come with a tachometer, so I ordered one off of ebay and I would preffer not running a long wire if I don't have to.

Toyota Obsession replied: "Probally. They usually all come prewired for everything and just don't install the Gauges. It's cheaper and easier for them to make all the wires the same for all models."

Tachometer for 1994 Honda Civic CX.? I just bought a tachometer from EBAY for my 94 honda civic and do not know how to install plus the installation directions from the seller are not very good. Does anybody know of a webpage where I can easy directions? THANKS

hc2006 replied: "I used to have a 1992 Honda Civic DX, and personally, I recommend having it professionally installed - it doesn't cost much. I had an AutoMeter tach installed for free at the place I purchased it from. I tried to do some Google searching, and didn't have too much luck finding specific instructions, but I did come across this link although you need to create an account to access it. I do not have an account, and have not seen the contents of the link so I'm not sure if the answer is there, but the subject of the thread is "Installing a tach in a 92-95 civic..." Good luck!"

robb replied: "just find an ex cluster and put it in. no wiring needed and has a tach."

michael m replied: "red=power black=ground other color=green and yellow wire on the distributor"

Will this Tachometer fit this Pillar Pod? I have a 1999 Honda Civic DX and I'm trying to put an tachometer in it. I have 2 different links with a tachometer in one and a pillar pod in the other. I want to know if this tachometer (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/52mm-2-RPM-Tachometer-Gauge-Universal-240SX-Civic-Neon_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem20ac954c81QQitemZ140334419073QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories) Will go in this single pillar pod (http://www.procivic.com/pages-product_car_part_info/category-73_103/product-460/index.html). Thanks.

Brad J replied: "Your link appears to be dead, but a 52mm gauge WILL fit in a 2 1/16 gauge."

is there a way to hook up a tachometer gauge to a 96 cavalier? my 96 cavalier has the old style cluster with just temperature speed odometer and idiot lights I know you can buy gauges online that go into gauge pods does anyone know if its possible to hook something like this up? =|293%3A1|294%3A30

Red replied: "Yes. A tachometer typically runs off either the distributor itself or the ignition coil. Just make sure the one you buy has a switch to select a 4 cylinder engine."

Hank I replied: "You have coil fired ignition with no distrubitor. You'll have to get a tach with instructions on how to install."

Replacing the instrument cluster with a new one in a 2003 Chevrolet Impala? I have a broken instrument cluster in my car, and I was going to buy a new one on eBay. I have a 3400 model and the original cluster didn't have the tachometer, but I was about to buy one that did have one. Is this a good idea? Will it just plug right in and work?

Leonard A replied: "REBUILT INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS ARE AVAILABLE FROM THE CHEVY DEALER...... sorry , forgot about the caps.... take your car to the dealer , they will get the model number off the cluster and order one. if you want to do it yourself they are easy to change and you can order one with the mileage already set. price for a rebuilt cluster with exchange runs between $257 and $325 depending on what the number on the label is thats on the backside of the cluster. i am in the parts dept of my chevy dealership and i am ordering clusters and radios , rebuilt , for various gm vechicles that come into our shop and i order at least once a week !"

vip.auto replied: "Your first and best option is to record the mileage on the odometer, remove the cluster and take it (with the VIN) to your nearest GM dealer. They will send it to their affiliate AC Delco authorized repair center for repair or re-manufacture. That way you get back the same one you took out and you know it will work. If you attempt to install one from another vehicle not only will it not work, you will very likely not even be able to start the engine. Late model GM vehicles store the VIN in each and every module in the vehicle, including the cluster and if you get a mismatch all he!! breaks loose. Good luck."

5" TACHOMETER 11000 RPM $35 Shipped? i found this on ebay, very good deal $35 shipped, what do you guys think? ++TACHOMETER+&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&fmmk=&fmmd=&fylo=&fyhi=&mppfqy=5%22+tach&sadis=200&fpos=91776&sabfmts=1&saobfmts=insif&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&seller=1&sass=trendy_mens&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search

Just Me replied: "A Honda does not that much rpm."

hondab16tuner replied: "My honda civic redlines at 11,500."

thesubwayguy500 replied: "Ew, no, your stock one is perfect. Troy R, yeah you can do that with the stock one."

troy r replied: "I have a 5" tach on in my integra I love it mines a Summit brand with a shift light I love it. It gives a racing look and lets you shift at the rpm you want, go for it."

Will this tach work on my snowmobile? I have a 2003 Polaris Supersport 550 and it does not include a tachometer from the factory. I have found a tach on eBay that matches the speedometer which has three lights on it. One of which is a reverse indicator light. My snowmobile does NOT have reverse on it but all I require is the tach itself. Will it work satisfactorily?

ctlyle43 replied: "It should you don't have to use reverse light."

any suggestions or recommendations for tachometer or rpm gauge for 2002 honda shadow sabre 1100? does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for a tachometer or rpm gauge for a 2002 honda shadow sabre 1100 motorcycle? i looked online and saw some retailers selling some for $150 to $600.. that seems expensive to me. does anyone know of any that are cheaper? i saw some on ebay for $20 to $100.. but i dont know which applications they'll fit on. if anyone can help me with this, i'd appreciate it! thanks!

Ken G replied: "I think I would go to the local bike parts yard and take the old broken one with you. Compare them on the junked bikes or boxes of tachs that they have. Most tachometers have very similar wiring as they all work on the same principal and typically from the same type of signal. If you can stay within the Honda make, and find another tach that has the same basic size and shape it will work fine."

Where can I find a cheap speedometer and tach assembly for my 06 GSX-R600? I need a speedometer and tachometer assembly to replace the broken one on my bike. I need either a good website or a place in Dallas or Lubbock TX. I have already tried Crigslist, ebay, and amazon. I would prefer that it not cost more that $200 or $250 new or used

Anthony T replied: "craigslist"

I have a stick shift, but there is no tachometer? My 2000 Ford Focus manual trans doesn't have a tach-meter in the guage. If I replace the guage is it feasible to get one with a tach, or will things be out of place. For example do i risk hiding/covering certain features that come stock? Or will they still be visible? Where do you recommend I get one? I saw some on ebay, but there isn't much to choose from. I'm not looking for any racing guages. I just want something that stands out, like on current vehicles now. Another thing that has me confused is that on an auto with o/d same year and later they have a tachometer on it. That doesn't makes sense to me, how do you explain that?

oklatom replied: "A tachometer is certainly not a required instrument. Some trim packages have the tach, some don't. Just like some packages have only an AM/FM radio while others have a CD player. Is there some reason you think you need one? Lots get along quite well without them."

swerve_95 replied: "Just use your speedometer,to shift.Find the right MPH for each shift."

krazybob613 replied: "Contact your local automotive recycling center and see if they can come up with a compatible tachometer equipped cluster, I am not certain but I think the stock cluster operates on data from the computer and the wiring should be already in place - you should only need to swap out the clusters and transfer the odometer chip to the new cluster (it is digitally keyed to the computer)."

Asi replied: "usualy, base models do not have tachometer. Automatic transmision is usualy an optional for higher line of accesoryes, also for more powerfull motors. I had two cars with no tachometer.. but you can tell their rpms from the speed, also you know when to change gear from the sound.. it's pretty basic, but you get used to it. You can change the dials with dials with a tachometer, but you'll reset the odometer. But it's quite expensive, try a salvage yard for it (obvieusly, you are looking for a ford focus 2000 dash dials, others won't fit, and for most of times won't work either) An optional tachometer can be installed, with it's probe pointing to the flywheel, or any other pulley on accesory belt or timing belt, you then just need to adjust to the engeine rpms (based on the ratio between the engine and that pulley, the flywheel has a constant 1:1 ratio, so no modification required if you reach the flywheel)"

melinuxfool replied: "I wouldn't waste the energy on swapping out the instrument cluster. A tachometer is not necessary, even with the standard transmission. Just listen to the engine, it'll tell you when to shift. If you must have a tachometer, you can buy them as an add-on gauge at many parts stores. These mount on the pillars, so you don't have to redo your instrument cluster."
