how can i get popcorn oil stains outta my green shirt? i recently bought a green shirt and my friends at the movies put popcorn down my shirt cause i feel asleep...but idont know how to get the oil stain out and i dont wanna fade the greeness of my shirt WAT CANI DO HELP ME!!! plz

Somethingtotry replied: "Spray some SHOUT on the spots and let it soak for a day. Then launder it as normal. Do not dry the shirt until you see if the stain came out. You may need to do it a couple of times."

MJ replied: "You can use one of a few things by spraying or rubbing them into the affected areas on both sides of the fabric then allow to sit about 1/2 hour-over night and wash on cold cycle. Orange hand cleaner (any automotive shop or section will have this) simple green (automotive department) Castrol Purple Degreaser (automotive department) M30 (Dollar Store but the fabric has to be color safe) The first three would be best as they will not harm fabric but the M30 requires that the fabric be color safe as it may take out the color."

heartsonfire replied: "Use a liquid dish soap, such as Dawn. Dawn is a great degreaser. Apply it directly to the stain and let it sit for 30 minutes. Launder as usual."

ncsufan replied: "Use dishwashing (not dishwasher) detergent or use shampoo. These are generally mild degreasers. I have used them successfully."

How much oil and popcorn to use in a Helly Kitty popcorn maker? I lost the directions and can't remember how much oil and popcorn to use. Its a Hello Kitty 3-qt. Popcorn Popper - KT5230. Thanks

Can I pop popcorn in a cuisinart popcorn popper without oil? I would like to know what would happen if I simply didn't use any oil when popping popcorn... would it just not pop properly, would it burn, or would it just not taste as good?

Dr. Shaw replied: "Your popcorn would burn, creating a huge mess. Due to the burning, it wouldn't pop correctly, causing the taste to be poorer. So all three."

batina batflaps replied: "Try saying that after 12 pints!"

When cooking popcorn, is it a good idea to add salt to the oil before putting in the kernels? Samefor spices? I want to add the stuff to the oil before the popcorn is cooked so that it coats everything evenly.

the cynical chef replied: "the salt won't dissolve in the oil."

vince replied: "eh, i dont like that because it actualy doesnt coat it evenly verry well. your best bet is to pop it then put the popped corn into a lage bowl with drizzled oil and toss in any other desired spices. tossing them in a large bowl will give you a nice even coating."

jewel64052 replied: "Add salt when ever you want!! I will be fine before and after!!"

K B replied: "salt breaks down the oil so it is a bad idea to add it to the oil"

fairyprincess replied: "My favorite way to make popcorn is to cook the popcorn first in the oil. After the popcorn has popped add salt and whatever kind of spices needed. I like to shake the container to evenly coat or you can use your hands."

Miranda J replied: "Salt actually retards the popping, so it's better to wait. We like to pop it first, and while it is still hot and just barely dumped into the bowl, we add salt and shake or stir it up. That way, the oil helps hold the salt on the corn, but doesn't make the popcorn take longer to pop."

Christina H replied: "Back in my highschool days I worked at Target. I worked in the snack bar. Anyway we added the oil and the butter flavored salt with the popcorn. Worked fine everytime."

jzbnkat replied: "salt is actually been known in cooking to prevent the oil from reaching that too high temperature which results in smoking+burning, So yes go ahead ,but wait until after popcorn is popped to coat with spices."

Gumbo replied: "Dont hurt ,I find it is the best way to get the salt on all of the popcorn"

lexisk replied: "You do not want to add anything to the oil. You will only end up frying or burning it, due to the high temperature of the oil. After you pop your corn, drizzle butter over it or use a butter flavored spray and spray evenly over the hot popped corn and sprinkle with salt or any desired spice. The heat of the corn will absorb just enough of the butter to flavor it, leaving enough for the salt to stick. For a healthier recipe - use a hot air pop-corn popper to pop the corn instead of popping it in hot oil."

Is there another way to make stove-top popcorn without oil? I dont have an air poper or a microwave or oil. So is there anything else I can use?

I'm just a Bill replied: "yup, about a tablespoon."

HEAT2269 replied: "noo jus a lil butter no oil"

jeffrey s replied: "no, oil is just for flavoring purposes. there is water inside the kernel that will evaporate and expand causing the kernels to pop. pop on!"

kendall p replied: "yes it makes it pop quicker!"

rudy341 replied: "just a little veggie oil or that orvil popcorn guys butter oil stuff that you can use for popping corn or for a topping."

Hopey replied: "Just a teaspoon, if you don't want alot"

How do you clean burnt oil out of a popcorn maker? I just bought a used popcorn maker--The kind with a kettle like at the movie theater. There is a coating of crusted burnt oil in the kettle and around the edges that I can't seem to get out. I tried warm water and soap and also tried Easy-Off oven cleaner. It still works, but gets very very smokey whenever I try to use it. Any suggestions would be great!

Mike L replied: "lots of scrubbing or use sand paper But it sounds like the heating element is not right?? Is there an automatic switch to shut the unit down when the corn is done..?? It should be a weight device But we cant see it so Good luck"

sue replied: "SOS or Brillo Pad and HOT water and lots of scrubbing. Warm water doesn't get any burnt grease off anything. Scouring powder like Comet or Bar Keepers Friend will also work, but needs hot water and a steel scrubbie pad."

Hopeki replied: "There are products specifically made to clean those popcorn poppers. They are granulated and come in large jars. I have included one link below. If that is out of your budget, you want something that will cut grease. I have used several different ones on our popper, but make sure it says "cuts grease" on the label. And lastly, a certain amount of grease is okay, it is like seasoning a pan. However, when you get stuck-on kernels you should start cleaning it because they will cause a burning smell that will drive people from the room. I speak from experience!"
